Good coffee
Our focus areas
We believe that every cup of coffee can make a difference. With “Good coffee for a better tomorrow”, we show our commitment to transparency throughout our entire coffee supply chain. Transparency leads to taking responsibility.
By promoting more sustainable agricultural practices, we invest in local communities and a better environment. By purchasing all our coffees via credible certification schemes for more sustainable coffee farming, we reduce our environmental impact and help improve the livelihoods of the people behind our coffee.
Our commitment goes beyond the product itself. We invest in innovative packaging, reduce waste, and strive for net zero climate emission production processes. In this way we ensure that every step – from plant to consumer – contributes to a healthier planet.

Climate Change
The coffee future is at risk because of climate change
The production of coffee is energy intensive and associated with land use change. We are determined to make our coffee more sustainable by reducing our energy usage and CO2 emissions in the coffee chain.
The Rainforest Alliance certification assures us that there hasn’t been land use change and CO2 emissions related to that, in our supply chain since 2014.
We monitor the CO2 emissions as of 2018 and are on track to meet our climate goals for 2030 and further. We are SBTi committed.
Chain and product transparency
Transparency throughout the coffee chain
Ahold Delhaize is a proud founder of UTZ, now Rainforest Alliance (“RA”). RA grew into the world’s largest independent certification for more sustainable coffee. We fully support the initial UTZ philosophy: good coffee is traceable, so quality and sustainable challenges can be identified, and we know where we need to invest to improve.
We want to remain a frontrunner in transparency and will be launching new initiatives within and on top of RA certification. The risk assessment tool specifies the sustainability topics and countries we should focus on to improve and mitigate risks and issues.
We provide our partners with a dashboard, where they can trace their coffees themselves, including the sustainability risks.

More sustainable packaging
Reducing our
environmental footprint
Reduction of packaging material will be achieved by thinner material, by less packaging usage and smarter packaging design. Redesign of our packaging leads to more efficient recycling in the public collection system. We work together with waste processing companies to maximize recycling of material.
We want to maximize the re-use of materials by having our packaging materials made of recycled raw materials, in compliance with standing legislation in the countries of distribution.
